Visited Dubai on my way home
after the 3rd MEAHI Conference in Beirut, Lebanon. Had always wanted
the opportunity to visit Ski Dubai, the Burj Al Arab and the Burj Khalifa.
Here, I am in Ski Dubai which was a fantastic place to be in - minus 3
degrees C complete with ski slope and chair lifts. Did not realize
that the ski slope is located right inside one of the biggest shopping malls
I've ever been to - Mall of the Emirates. So mall shoppers can see
folks whizzing down the ski slope right in front of a glass window! |

The Burj Al-Arab should be on
the list of the "1000 places to visit before you die" (ever watched that
program on Discovery Travel and Living Channel?). Finally got my
chance to visit this 7* luxury hotel. You have to step into it
to experience its splendour and grandeur! |
|
Although I am rational enough
not to splurge SGD$7,800 (or USD$5,600) for the luxury of a 1-night stay in
this 7* hotel, I felt that I should at least spoil myself for a
once-in-a-lifetime lunch at the Burj Al-Arab. So I signed up for a
4-course lunch at the famed Al Mahara restaurant where you dine in front of
a huge aquarium with sharks, sting rays and other fishes of the
Mediterranean. |
|
The menu of the "most
expensive meal in my life" (to-date). The cost of the 4-course lunch
was AED550 (UAE Dirhams). I leave you to find out how much this costs
in your local currency. If you need help for conversion, try this

My fascination for the world's
tallest buildings was another reason why I had to visit Dubai. I was
thrilled to see the Burj Khalifa, the current holder of the title for the
world's tallest building. Unfortunately, the observation deck on the 124th
floor was closed to visitors when I was there following a power failure in
one of its elevators in Feb 2010.
